Biomanufacturing Research Institute and Technology Enterprise (BRITE)

As a preeminent research and training institute, BRITE conducts cutting edge research benefitting human health and fosters student success through excellent teaching and innovative research experiences to provide a well-educated, highly trained, and diverse workforce. We meet the changing needs of life sciences industries and clinical research sectors leading to new economic, opportunities for North Carolina. BRITE has been a key and respected leader and partner in workforce development for the NC Pharma industry for over 15 years. The BRITE Institute is home to the Pharmaceutical Sciences Department and 40 scientists whose research and training efforts contribute to the workforce development for the biomanufacturing and pharmaceutical industries in North Carolina. The Pharmaceutical Sciences Department has two tracks: Pharmaceutical Sciences and Clinical Research Sciences.

Clinical Research Sciences Program

The clinical research industry is a rapidly growing field, contributing more than $1 billion to North Carolina’s economy. We offer our students the knowledge and tools needed function at a high level in clinical research positions in the local and global industry. Our students can receive a B. S. , a Minor, and Certificate in Clinical Research. Our students are making futures BRITE in Clinical Research as they get hands-on experience and exposure to local and national companies that are leaders in the clinical research industry.

BRITE Futures

BRITE is the community outreach sector of BRITE at North Carolina Central University. BRITE Futures host summer camps for middle and high school students and provide professional development workshops for middle and high school teachers. Since its inception, BRITE Futures hosted and served more than 20,000 students and 2,000 teachers from 93 of the 100 counties in North Carolina. BRITE Future’s Summer Immersion Experience in Biotechnology has served 145 students from 28 North Carolina counties that help them gain competencies in research skills, knowledge of biotechnology, hands on laboratory skills, and increased awareness of college and career opportunities.
